Let me start with our first afternoon here in Zermatt.
after arriving in our new hotel room,
and marveling at our spectacular view,
we headed out to see what we could find in town.
we wandered around
mostly window shopping
then headed up a side road
up the mountain to see where the locals live.
Mostly apartment buildings
not much different than the rentals for tourists.
(except ours, it's amazing)
Then back to town to look for food.
We found a lot of restaurants closed -
and not until later did we find out
dinner around here is from
6:00pam -11:0Opm
But we found a place for some
meat fondue
and a salad
though the meat fondue was not like we made
at home
Years ago.
the meat was sliced thin
(I like our way better)
we did see a menu at another restaurant
where they said
meat cube fondue
that's more like it !
But the more common fondue here is
cheeze, with bread & potatoes
after a stop at the local grocery store
for coke and chocolate
We went to bed!
NEXT DAY
went out our front door,
then up and up
2000'
in under 2 hours
then back down!
we had a little sprinkle on us
then sunshine the rest of the way!
Back to our hotel for a sauna and dip in pool and a Sauna
a short nap - and then
down town to do a little shopping
I needed bandaids...
(I fell down the stairs before our hike!
skinned my knee
and cut the back of my hand
nothing serious!)
Greg got a new lightweight daypack
and I looked for trekking poles
We looked at lots of fine dining establishments but
decided to dine at our own hotels dining room.
Turned out to be a wonderful choice!
Vegetable soup
(cooked like tomatoe puree but with all kinds of vegies)
Tomatoe croutons (very tiny cubes - yummy)
filets cooked to perfection
with crispy broccoli florets
and a bowl of tiny white potatoes!
Creme brulee for dessert
The best I've ever had,
with Strawberry sorbet and fresh baby strawberries
Can you tell it was all
fabulous?!
(No picture. I was too busy enjoying it!)
Back to the room, full and happy - TIRED!
z Zzz
